How to Grow Chamomile Indoors

Chamomile is most well known for being used to make a tea that is popular because of its soothing qualities. It has gentle sedative qualities that help relax and soothe harried nerves. The plant itself is also attractive, sporting dainty white flowers with yellow centers that are reminiscent of daisies. Chamomile does best when planted as part of an outdoor herb garden, but it can be grown indoors if necessary. By growing your own chamomile you will always have access to this useful herb.

    • Chamomile seeds
    • Pot
    • Soil
    • Place a pot on a sunny windowsill and fill with potting soil. Look for a slightly acidic soil that is rich in nutrients.

    • Spread the seeds across the top of the soil. Do not bury them as this will inhibit the germination process.

    • Keep the soil moist and warm. The seeds will germinate in a few days.

    • Once the seedlings are 2 to 3 inches high thin them out so they are at least 2 inches apart. Continue to water and give full sun through maturity.

    Tips & Warnings

    • To speed germination you can lay a sheet of plastic film loosely over the top of the pot.
    • Do not use soil that is treated with weed inhibitors.
